Skardu’s traditional Balti cultural festival, May Fung, organized by the local administration, took an unexpected yet meaningful turn yesterday. Amid colorful decorations, lanterns, and fireworks, public slogans suddenly echoed through the venue, changing the mood of the event.

Powerful chants for “Prisoner No. 804” transformed the festival from a simple cultural gathering into a clear expression of public awareness. This was not a planned political rally, but a spontaneous outpouring of national pain and concern felt by the people.

The scene showed a strong message: the public no longer wants to remain silent spectators. People now believe that culture, sports, festivals, and public gatherings should not be limited to entertainment only. Instead, they should also become platforms to express collective awareness and national goals.

In previous years, the May Fung festival was mostly about winter fun, fireworks, and photography. This time, however, the public gave it a positive political direction by showing support for a political prisoner whom they see as a symbol of public interest, national dignity, and people’s rights.
